Meet Dr. Shurn

Dr. Brandon Shurn is a mental health counselor and counselor educator holding a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Seattle University, working fulltime in the Online Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. 

He is a licensed clinical professional counselor in Maryland, and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida. He has been in the counseling profession full-time since 2017 and has been providing mental health counseling services to clients since that time. He is also an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) and Certified Personal Trainer and uses this knowledge to help clients achieve financial and fitness goals. 

Dr. Shurn is a proponent of personal growth and development and continues to seek ways to improve his ability to work effectively with his clients. He believes that the heart and mind are a type of soil that needs to be tiled to prepare to for growth, and the words spoken (even your thoughts) are the seeds that are sown, which ultimately procude the harvest you see in your life. He enjoys working with adults who have experienced truama and or grief inducing events in their lives and is a firm believer in the ability to successfully integrate those life experiences to emerge stronger and more EmPowered.

He is the owner/founder of EmPower Me Holistic Counseling where he uses his training in Gestalt therapy to work with clients from a holistic and integrative perspective to help them develop their ability to live more EmPowered. His personal maxim is “You may not be able to control how life happens to you, but you can control how you happen to life.” 

In his spare time, Dr. Shurn likes to hang out with his family, watch movies, exercise, and recharge with a good book.
